2018-2019 Academic Year Opening Ceremony Takes Place at Final International University

The Final International University 2018-2019 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held at the FIU Conference Hall on November 5th. The ceremony was hosted by FIU Rector Dr. Abdullah Öztoprak, and FIU Vice President Mr İbrahim Taşel. The ceremony was attended by Çatalköy Mayor Mehmet Hulusioğlu, members of YÖDAK, representatives of other universities, academics and students. The ceremony started with a live music concert and cocktail in the foyer area, followed by the National Anthem.

In his opening speech, Dr. Öztoprak paid credit to the partnership  between the Final Education Group in Turkey and the DMG Group in North Cyprus, and summarised the growth of the University since its initial establishment to the point where in the new academic year, FIU was offering nineteen degree programs to 675 students from 30 different countries. Dr. Öztoprak noted that FIU programs are all prepared in accordance with the European Higher Education Area Standards and Guidelines and that employment of graduates is a priority for the University. Not only do FIU programs marry theoretical and practical training, with the support of the Final Education Group and the DMG Group, job guarantees are given to students graduating from the educational sciences, physical education, psychology, tourism and gastronomy programs. This is a testament to the importance attached to student-centered and quality education.

İbrahim Taşel, the FIU Vice President stated that to date four million 210 thousand people had been educated in Final education institutions. He noted that the Final Group opened its first institution in the TRNC 13 years ago, and that the group had always been fully committed to the promotion of the TRNC as an island of education.

The first class of the year was delivered by Prof. Dr. Acar Baltaş. Sharing psychologogical research data, Dr. Baltaş illustrated how students can show their real capacity and potential when they choose to – or are forced – to leave their comfort zones: Ores are transformed into jewels under pressure. Dr. Baltaş emphasized, finally, that it is necessary to be a good person for the world rather than being the best in the world.
