The Chairman of The Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YÖDAK) Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş came to  FIU to see the new building and meet the FIU Rector, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Y. Öztoprak. for his new position and visited the first building where the institution was opened for education by obtaining detailed information about the university.

Dr. Gökçekuş commented on the expansion of the higher education sector in North Cyprus, noting that we have now become a ‘university island’ with students from 139 different countries and teaching faculty from 65 different countries at 14 different universities. He emphasised the importance being paid not only to providing high quality education but to upgrading safety, health and transportation infrastructure.

He also summarised ongoing work on YÖDAK's European Union project through which educational programs are being aligned with EU standards and regulations.

Mr Gökçekuş expressed his support for FIU and his belief that Prof. Öztoprak will succeed in leading FIU to the highest level. With a 60% ratio of international students, FIU has already made an exciting beginning, and with its investment, and sensitivity to architecture and the environment as displayed by the new campus, the University is now looking forward to new investments and new achievements.
